Start speaking with one press.
Keep the app you are working in open. Start dictating with the floating button or a keyboard shortcut, then stop when you have finished.
Choose your microphone and recognition language. Adjust sound cues and pause music while you dictate.

- Move the small button to a convenient spot, or let it hide automatically when you are not using it.
- Your own keyboard shortcut
- Press to start and press again to finish. Hold-to-talk is also available with supported system shortcuts.
You can change the shortcut and activation mode in settings. Automatic insertion on macOS requires Accessibility permission.
See the words as you speak.
Turn on the floating preview to follow the text as it is recognised. You can copy it directly from the panel.

- With automatic insertion enabled, the text goes into the active field when you finish dictating.
- Or keep it in your clipboard
- Keep the result ready for manual insertion. Clipboard retention and automatic insertion are separate settings.
Come back to what you dictated.
Need that paragraph again? Open your recent dictations in Oudden, find the text and copy it into another message or document.
History is stored locally. You can delete entries or turn off saving new dictations in privacy settings.
Your voice is processed on your computer.
Oudden recognises speech locally, without sending audio to a transcription service.
