Interface and transcription languages
Choose the language of Oudden's menus and the speech you want to transcribe.
Oudden has separate settings for the interface language and the language of speech. For example, you can use English menus while transcribing a recording in another supported language.
Interface and speech are separate settings
- Interface language changes the menus, buttons and settings in Oudden.
- Transcription language tells recognition which language to expect in voice input, meetings and imported audio files.
Changing the interface language does not select the language of a recording. Neither setting translates existing notes or transcripts. The language of the Oudden website is also separate from these app settings.
Change the interface language
- Open Oudden's settings and select Preferences.
- In the Interface group, find Interface language.
- Open the list and choose a language. Each option uses the language's own name.
- Wait for the menus to update.
There is no separate Save button. If Oudden reports that it could not apply the change, use the retry action in settings. Check the displayed language before assuming the change has been applied.
Choose the transcription language
- In settings, open Transcription.
- Find Transcription language and open its list.
- Choose the language spoken in the recording. You can find it by scrolling or using the search field.
- Close settings and start your next voice input, meeting recording or import.
If the list offers regional variants, choose the one that fits the speech. Choose a language from the available list rather than changing the interface language to match the recording.
For audio import, select the language before clicking Transcribe. Changing it while a file is being processed does not restart that import. To try another language on the same audio, import the original file again. Existing transcript text is not recalculated when you change this setting.
Automatic language detection
Choose Auto-detect if you do not know the language in advance or expect speech in more than one language. Oudden will determine the language from the audio. If you know the recording's main language and recognition is incorrect, try selecting that language explicitly.
Automatic detection is a recognition option, not a request to translate the speech into the interface language. Short phrases, background noise and several people speaking at once can make recognition more difficult.
If words are recognized incorrectly
- Check Transcription language, not just the language of the menus.
- If Auto-detect gives the wrong result, select the spoken language and test a short recording or import the file again.
- For voice input or a meeting, check that speech is clear and the microphone is not muted. See microphone access and permissions.
- For an imported file, listen to the original audio. Changes to microphone settings cannot improve speech that has already been recorded.
- If a setting does not apply or errors persist, contact support with the app version, chosen language and the displayed message.
Check names, numbers and specialist terms before using the resulting text.
