Organise notes in folders
Create folders and subfolders, move notes and keep project materials together.
Use folders to keep notes for a project or area of work together. A note can be moved to another folder without copying its text.
Create a folder
Use the New folder button beside My notes in the sidebar (the folder with a plus icon). Enter a name and confirm. You can also create a folder while choosing a note’s location with Add to folder.
To create a subfolder, open an existing folder’s actions menu and choose New folder. For example, create Projects, then Client portal inside it. Names must not be empty, and two folders at the same level cannot have the same name.
Create a note in a folder
Open the folder’s actions menu and choose New note. Give the note a useful title, such as First version, Prototype review or Launch plan. The note is created in that folder, so you do not have to move it afterwards.
Click the arrow beside a folder to expand or collapse its contents. Collapsing a folder does not delete or move anything.
Move an existing note
- Open the note.
- Click its folder name below the title, or Add to folder if it has no folder.
- In Move note, open the destination folder. Use the folder path to go back up.
- Click Move here and wait for the move to finish.
Choose My notes as the destination to return the note to the top level. You can create a destination with New folder in the same dialog. The current folder is identified so you can check where the note is now.
Rename or delete a folder
Use Rename in the folder’s actions menu to change its name. To remove a folder, choose Delete folder and confirm.
A folder must be empty before deletion. Move or delete its notes and deal with its subfolders first. Do not delete notes just to tidy a folder if you want to keep them: move them elsewhere. Folder deletion cannot be undone.
If something does not work
- The name is rejected: enter a name and check for another folder with that name at the same level.
- The folder list does not load: use Retry in the location dialog.
- The move is blocked: read the message; the note or folder may need to finish synchronising.
- Someone shared a note with you: find it in Shared with me. It is read-only and cannot be moved into your own folders.
See Note saving problems for synchronisation warnings and Open a shared note for received documents.
