Text insertion and clipboard
Set up automatic pasting or collect dictated text from your clipboard.
Oudden can paste finished text into the active field, keep it in your clipboard or do both. The result is delivered after you stop dictating.
Choose how to receive text
Open settings → Voice Input. Two switches control delivery:
- Automatic pasting inserts text into the active app.
- Keep transcription in clipboard leaves text available for manual pasting.
They work independently:
- Paste without keeping the dictated text. Turn automatic pasting on and clipboard retention off. Oudden attempts to restore the previous clipboard contents after pasting.
- Paste and keep the text for reuse. Turn both switches on. Text appears in the field and stays in the clipboard.
- Only copy to the clipboard. Turn automatic pasting off and clipboard retention on. You choose the field and paste the text yourself.
- Collect text yourself. Turn both switches off. There is no automatic delivery. You can copy from the preview or history if enabled.
On Windows, this option does not preserve file lists or other special clipboard formats. If automatic pasting is unavailable, the dictated text may remain in the clipboard for manual pasting.
By default, automatic pasting is on and keeping text in the clipboard is off. If you have changed settings before, check the current switches.
Paste automatically
- Enable Automatic pasting.
- Open the target app and place the cursor in an editable field.
- Start dictating and speak your text.
- Stop recording, stay in the same field and wait for the result.
On macOS, Oudden needs Accessibility permission for automatic pasting. Check it in system settings or through the diagnostics in Voice Input settings. See the permissions guide.
Paste manually
Turn Automatic pasting off and Keep transcription in clipboard on. After dictation finishes, choose a field and press ⌘V on Mac or Ctrl+V on Windows.
The result replaces the previous clipboard contents. If you copy something else afterwards, retrieve your text from voice input history, provided history saving is enabled.
If text was not pasted
- Check that automatic pasting is enabled.
- Make sure the cursor is in a field you can type into, rather than on a button or in a read-only document.
- On Mac, check Accessibility permission for Oudden.
- Try a short phrase in another ordinary text field. If pasting works there, use manual pasting in the original app.
- With history enabled, open Voice input in Oudden and copy the recognised text. If there is no text there either, check your microphone and speech language.
If the problem continues, contact support. Include your system, Oudden version, target app and the state of both switches. A test phrase without personal information is enough to describe the problem.
