How to record a meeting
Start a meeting transcript, stop recording and continue in the same note.
Oudden turns the conversation into text while you meet. The transcript stays with the note, so you can return to it or create meeting notes afterwards. You do not need to connect a calendar to start recording.
Open a note
Create a note or open the one you want to use for the meeting. Give it a recognisable title and put it in the appropriate folder if needed.
If the meeting appears in the calendar on Oudden's home screen, open its note from there. Oudden can fill in the meeting title and attendees from the event. Opening a calendar note does not start recording.
Start recording
- In the note, click Record meeting. In an existing note, switch to the transcript view using the control below the title if needed.
- Wait for preparation to finish. If a permission request appears, grant access to the required audio source.
- Say a short sentence and check that words appear in the transcript.
- For an online meeting, also check that the other person's speech appears.
You can also start meeting mode with a configured meeting hotkey. It is separate from the voice input hotkey used for dictating into other apps.
Choose the setup for your meeting
- Online: join the call in your usual app. Oudden captures your microphone and available system audio without adding a bot to the call.
- In person: place the computer or microphone where it can pick up everyone in the room. Speak briefly from each seat and check the text before the meeting.
- Hybrid: check both sources: the people near the microphone and those speaking through the call.
Other sound playing on your computer can also enter the transcript. Pause unrelated audio before recording. If only one side of the conversation appears, check audio permissions and the meeting microphone setup.
During the meeting
The transcript follows new speech. You can scroll back to read an earlier part, then use Go to the end of the transcript to return to the latest replies.
You can open other notes or sections of Oudden while recording. A recording control remains in the top bar: use it to return to the meeting note or stop recording. Leaving the note does not stop capture.
Stop and continue
- Click Stop and wait for recording to finish processing.
- Read the last replies to check the end of the conversation.
- To continue the same meeting, click Resume recording in that note's transcript view. New speech is added after the existing transcript.
To record a different meeting, stop the current recording and open another note. Oudden records one meeting at a time.
Use the result
The transcript is already available after recording. You can copy or export it, or choose a template and generate a note. Stopping recording does not generate meeting notes automatically.
Saving the original audio is a separate setting and is off by default. In Privacy & Data, Audio Retention controls how long encrypted audio is kept on this device. A saved transcript does not necessarily mean a saved audio file is available.
If recording does not start
- Check the message shown in the note and whether another meeting is recording.
- Check microphone access and permission to capture sound from other apps.
- If Oudden reports that the local transcription engine is unavailable, restart the app and try again.
- If stopping failed, check the existing transcript before starting another recording. For a persistent problem, contact support.
