Work with a transcript

Read a meeting or imported audio transcript, understand speaker labels, copy text and export a file.

The transcript contains speech recognised during a meeting or from an imported audio file. It is separate from the note you write or generate from that text.

Open the transcript

Open the meeting note and select the transcript view using the control below the title. During recording, Oudden opens this view to show incoming speech. After you stop, you can switch between the transcript and the note.

For an imported audio file, open the note named after the file and wait for processing to finish. The transcript appears after recognition completes, rather than arriving live. See Transcribe an audio file.

If you scroll back while recording, use Go to the end of the transcript to return to the latest replies. You do not need to restart recording to resume following the conversation.

Understand the speaker labels

For a meeting recorded in Oudden, the two basic labels describe audio sources:

  • You — speech captured by the microphone.
  • Participant — speech captured from system audio.

These are not automatic identities for every person in the meeting. Several people in a room can appear under You, and several remote speakers can appear under Participant. Oudden does not currently separate each of those people by voice or provide a control for renaming transcript speakers.

Imported audio uses the Participant label. It does not identify individual people in the recording or split their voices into named speakers.

Check the attendee list

Click the date and participant control below the note title. For a note created from a calendar event, it can show the linked event and its attendees.

You can add a participant by entering their email and pressing Enter. Use the remove control next to a participant to remove them from the list.

This list provides meeting context. Adding an email here does not identify that person's voice, invite them to a call or give them access to the note. Sharing is a separate action. Imported files do not automatically add a calendar event or its attendee list.

Copy the text

  1. Switch to the transcript view.
  2. Click Copy in the actions below the title.
  3. Paste the result into your document or message.

The copy action follows the current view: in the transcript view it copies the transcript; in the note view it copies the note. Check which view is selected before copying.

The current transcript view is for reading, not editing recognised replies. If you need to correct a name or a phrase, edit the copied text in its destination or correct the note.

Export a file

If a meeting is still recording, stop it first. For an imported file, wait for processing to finish. In the transcript view, open Export and choose:

  • Text file (.txt) — a readable text copy for another app.
  • Markdown (.md) — a text document for a Markdown editor.
  • Subtitles (.srt) — text with timing information for subtitle tools.
  • JSON (.json) — structured transcript data for further processing.

Choose where to save the file in the system dialog. The transcript export does not include an audio recording. To export the generated note instead, switch to the note view; its export menu offers Markdown and PDF.

When the text is incomplete or inaccurate

  • Only your side appears in a meeting recording: check permission to capture system audio and that the other person's voice is playing through the computer.
  • Only the other side appears in a meeting recording: check microphone access, the system input device and its mute switch.
  • Words are incorrect: check the recognition language. For a meeting, try a short recording in quieter conditions; for an import, listen to the original file and check that speech is audible.
  • An imported file has no text or processing failed: follow the audio import checks.
  • The transcript cannot be loaded: use the retry action shown in the note. If the problem persists, contact support.

Check names, numbers and commitments before using a transcript as the basis for a message or meeting notes.
