Voice input settings
Choose how to start dictation and configure the button, preview and sounds.
Most options are in Voice Input in Oudden settings. Hotkeys, microphone, language and history retention have their own settings sections.
Hotkey and activation mode
- Open settings → Hotkeys.
- Set a convenient shortcut in Dictation Hotkey.
- Wait for it to save. If the app displays an error, choose another shortcut or follow the check shown beside it.
- Try the shortcut in an editable text field.
In tap mode, press once to start recording and again to stop. In hold mode, recording continues while you hold the key. Availability depends on your system and shortcut; follow the available settings and the activation hint in the app. Meeting recording uses a separate hotkey.
Floating button
Open settings → Voice Input.
- Start position sets where the panel appears: bottom right, centre or left. You can also move the floating panel around the screen.
- Auto-hide when idle hides the button while you are not dictating. Use your hotkey to start recording with this option enabled.
Leave auto-hide disabled if you want to start recording with your mouse.
Text preview
In the same section, enable Live Transcription Preview. A floating window shows recognised text while you dictate. You can copy text from it.
The preview lets you follow recognition. It does not change when insertion happens: text is sent to your app after you stop dictating. Make corrections in the email or document where you pasted the result.
Sounds and music
Voice Input settings include two independent switches:
- Dictation sounds plays tones when recording starts and stops.
- Pause media pauses music during dictation. This depends on playback control support in your player and operating system.
Microphone and language
Choose your input device under Preferences → Microphone. Set the language you speak under Transcription. If recognition is inaccurate, check both settings and try a short phrase.
